Breaking-News >> TodayHistory On January 3, 1933, the Japanese army captured Shanhaiguan
On this day, 92 years ago, on January 3, 1933 (December 8, 1932, the Japanese army captured Shanhaiguan. China troops guarding Shanhaiguan were fighting on their positions. At 23:00 on January 1, Japanese garrison captain Luo Quan planned a grenade explosion in front of the Yuguan Military Police Detachment. After the incident, Luo Quan insisted that it was the work of China troops; he commanded the troops to attack Nanguan and the station, and called the commanders of the Kwantung Army and the Tianjin Garrison Army to ask for help. The Japanese army that came to attack that night were repelled by the China garrison. In order to deal with the Japanese attack, the garrison headquarters ordered the Yuguan garrison to stand by for action. At about 1 a.m. on the 2nd, Japan put forward four conditions to China: (1) Nanguan will be put on guard by Japan;(2) the garrison stationed in Nanguan will be withdrawn;(3) the police and security teams of Nanguan will be withdrawn; and (4) the garrison on the city will be withdrawn., and an immediate reply will be limited. China said: "When the time comes to investigate the truth, then start negotiations." At 3 o'clock, the Japanese side notified: "There is no need to investigate this incident.""Otherwise, Nanguan will be seized by force." China firmly refused and immediately deployed troops. The Japanese army disarmed the China police outside Nanguan and monitored the chief of the Nanguan Public Security Bureau. The two sides were in a state of confrontation. At 9 o'clock on the 2nd, the Japanese garrison used wooden ladders to climb the Nanguan City Wall, but was repelled by China garrison troops. At about 10 o'clock, more than 3000 Japanese infantry artillery troops from the vanguard, supported by aircraft, artillery and tanks, attempted to break through from the south gate. China's defenders calmly fought, and by about 17:00, the Japanese army left without any support. In the evening, the Kwantung Army ordered more troops to seize the area. At 10:00 on January 3, 1933, Japanese reinforcements joined the battle and, under the cover of aircraft, warships and tanks, launched a key offensive near the southeast city corner and the south gate. China's defenders fought tenaciously with machine guns, mortars and grenades. After fierce competition, the two sides won and lost each other. By 1400, the Japanese army launched a general attack, and the artillery fire became more fierce. All the South Gate garrison soldiers were killed, and Japanese tanks took advantage of the situation to break in. At this point, Yuguan was occupied by the Japanese army. The Ninth Brigade of China's garrison, with a regiment of less than 2000 people, fought against a strong enemy for three days. More than half of the officers and soldiers were killed or injured, 4000 people were killed or injured, and more than 500 houses were destroyed by artillery fire.
