On this day 77 years ago, on February 24, 1948 (January 15, 1948 lunar calendar), the Battle of Yichuan began. The Battle of Yichuan, also known as the "Battle of Wazi Street". In the spring of 1948, the Northwest Field Army of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, after a new army consolidation movement, turned to the outside with five columns of the main force. On February 24, a force suddenly surrounded Yichuan City. The main force was hidden in the southwest area of Yichuan, preparing to annihilate the enemy's reinforcements. On the 26th, the 29th Army (two integrated divisions) of the Kuomintang Army was reorganized from Luochuan and Yijun to the front line of Yichuan. On the 28th, when the enemy arrived in the Wazi Street area south of Xuanchuan, the Northwest Field Army of the Chinese People's Liberation Army launched a fierce attack from all sides, and fought fiercely until March 1st, annihilating the 29th Army of the Kuomintang Army and killing the enemy commander Liu Kan. On March 3rd, the city of Yichuan was captured and the great victory of the Battle of Yichuan was achieved. The enemy also annihilated the 27th Division Headquarters, the 90th Division Headquarters and the 31st Brigade, the 46th Brigade, the 53rd Brigade, and the 61st Brigade, which belonged to the enemy. 29,000 people, fundamentally changed the situation of the Northwest Battlefield.
