On this day, 66 years ago, on April 4, 1959 (February 27, 1959 in the lunar calendar), British archaeologist Leakey discovered the fossils of "East Africans". Dr. Louis Leakey, a famous British anthropologist and archaeologist, was born on August 7, 1903, and came from a missionary family. His youth was spent among the Kikuyu people in Kenya. He studied at Cambridge University. Archaeological research began in East Africa in 1924. He has taught at some universities in the UK and the United States. On April 4, 1959, he and his wife unearthed a human fossil in Tanzania. This fossil, estimated to be 1.75 million years old, was named "East African Man"(now known as "Australopithecus"). Leakey believes this shows that humans originated earlier than previously believed. He died on October 1, 1972.
