On this day, 48 years ago, on January 21, 1977 (December 3, 1976, the lunar calendar), dinosaur fossils were first discovered in the Qamdo Prefecture of Xizang. On January 21, 1977, Chinese scientific workers discovered a batch of precious dinosaur fossils in the Qamdo Prefecture of Xizang. It is the first time in the world that dinosaur fossils have been found in a high-altitude area like Chamdo. This discovery is of great significance for studying the causes of the uplift and geological development history of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, as well as the study of paleontological evolution, palaeogeographic environment, palaeoclimate, and palaeogeomorphology. According to preliminary identification, the dinosaur fossils discovered this time lived in the early and middle Jurassic period, which is 160 million to 140 million years old.
