On this day 56 years ago, on April 23, 1969 (March 7, 1969 in the lunar calendar), film artist Zheng Junli was forced to die. Zheng Junli, formerly known as Zheng Zhong, also known as Zheng Qianli. Born in Shanghai in December 1911. A native of Zhongshan, Guangdong. In the summer of 1929, Zheng Junli participated in the performances of "The Gentleman on Liang" and "Salome" in the South Guoshe. In the winter of the same year, he organized the Modern Drama Club with Chen Baichen and others. In 1931, he participated in the League of Left-wing Dramatists and organized the Avenue Drama Club. In 1932, he joined the United China Film Company and starred in films such as "The Road", "The New Woman" and "The Lost Lamb". In 1937, he translated the first and second chapters of Stanislavsky's "Actors Self-Cultivation". After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, he served as the captain of the third team of Shanghai National Salvation Drama. In 1940, he directed the documentary "Long Live the Nation" at Chongqing China Film Studio. In 1943, he directed plays such as "Drama Spring and Autumn" and "Proposal" for Chongqing Chinese Drama Club. In 1946, he joined Kunlun Film Company. In 1947, he co-directed the film "Spring Water Flows Eastward" with Cai Chusheng. In 1948, he directed "The Crow and the Sparrow", which was completed in 1950. In 1957, the film won the first prize of excellent film awarded by the Ministry of Culture. After the founding of New China, he directed feature films such as "Song Jingshi", "Lin Zexu", "Nie Er", and "Dead Wood Meets Spring". Among them, "Nie Er" won the biopic award at the 1961 Karlovy-Vary International Film Festival. He has published articles on film theory such as "Ruan Lingyu and Her Performing Arts" and "On the Tradition of Chinese Film". He was persecuted to death on April 23, 1969.
