Thirty years ago today, on April 27, 1995 (March 28, 1995 lunar calendar), the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China approved Chen Xitong's resignation. On April 27, 1995, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China approved Chen Xitong's resignation as Secretary, Standing Committee and member of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China. Chen Xitong resigned because he had an unshirkable responsibility for the suicide of Wang Baosen (former Vice Mayor of Beijing) suspected of economic crimes in Beijing. In September, the Fifth Plenary Session of the 14th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China decided to remove him as a member of the Political Bureau and Central Committee of the Central Committee, and recommended that he be removed from his post as a member of the National People's Congress in accordance with legal procedures. On August 29, 1997, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection made a decision to expel Chen Xitong from the party. In view of the fact that some of Chen Xitong's problems have violated the criminal law, the procuratorial organs have filed a case for investigation according to law. On July 31, 1998, the Beijing Higher People's Court publicly convicted Chen Xitong of corruption and dereliction of duty and sentenced him to 16 years in prison.
