On June 16, 1919, the Slovakia Soviet Republic was established
106 years ago today, on June 16, 1919 (May 19, 1919 in the lunar calendar), the Slovak Soviet Republic was established. Under the influence of the victory of the Russian October Revolution, there was a high tide of revolutionary movements in Central Europe. In the spring of 1919, Hungary established a Soviet Republic. In June, the Hungarian Red Army crossed the border in the fight against the Czechoslovak intervention army and liberated most of Slovakia. On June 16, the Slovak people announced the establishment of the Slovak Soviet Republic in Preshov. On the 20th, a revolutionary government led by Janushek was established. At the end of June, the Hungarian Red Army was forced to withdraw from the region. On July 7, the Slovak Soviet Republic was strangled by the Czechoslovak bourgeoisie.
