On October 18, 1990, Taiwan's criminal law added provisions stipulating that aerial hijacking is punishable by death or life imprisonment. When Taiwan's "Minister of Justice" Lu Youwen reported on the draft amendment to the Criminal Law at the Judicial Committee of the "Legislative Yuan" that hijacking is a new type of criminal act in recent years. Therefore, the "Ministry of Justice" has specially added the death penalty or life imprisonment for the crime of aerial hijacking in this draft amendment to achieve a deterrent effect. Taiwan's "Transportation Minister" Chang Jianbang said that in the future, those who hijacked aircraft from mainland China and came to Taiwan can be sent back according to criminals.
