On March 18, 1922, Shanghai University was established by the Chinese Communists. The school consists of the Department of Social Sciences, the Department of Chinese Literature, the Department of Fine Arts, and the Department of British Literature. In addition, there are secondary schools and Russian classes. Deng Zhongxia served as the chief of general affairs, Qu Qiubai served as the head of the department of sociology, and Chen Wangdao served as the head of the department of Chinese literature. Its sociology department focuses on learning the basic theories of Marxism, and Qu Qiubai's teaching plan for the sociology department puts forward the study of labor problems, peasant problems, and women's problems.
