Emperor Shu Ming His reign lasted from February 2, 629 AD (January 4, the first year of Emperor Shu Ming) to November 17, 641 AD (October 9, the 13th year of Emperor Shu Ming). Emperor Shuming's posthumous title was Emperor Tahō Nhiro. In the second year after he ascended the throne, he sent an envoy to the Tang Dynasty for the first time in Japanese history. During the 12 years of the reign of Emperor Shuming, the strength of the Sugo family has greatly developed. In June of 636 AD (8th year of Emperor Shuming), a fire broke out in Okamoto Palace. Emperor Shuming moved to Tanakomiya (now Tanakomachi, Yuwara City). This year, drought and famine occurred in Japan. In 637 AD (9th year of Emperor Shu Ming), Shimi was in chaos, and Emperor Shu Ming appointed a general named Mao Ye to go to the conquest. In July 639 (11th year), Emperor Shuming issued an edict to build a palace and a large temple (located in present-day Sakurai City) on the banks of the Baekje River. In December, Emperor Shuming visited Yukiyo Onsen and ordered the construction of the nine towers of Baekje Daji Temple. In April 640 AD (12th year of Emperor Shuming), Emperor Shuming drove back to the palace from Iyo Onsen and stopped at Shizaka Palace (the address is near Ogaru Town, Imabara City). In October, Emperor Shuming moved to Baekje Palace. On October 9, 641 (the 13th year of Emperor Shu Ming), Emperor Shu Ming died at Baekje Palace.
