Breaking-News >> TodayHistory On June 7, 1974, "The Art of War" and "The Art of War" were unearthed
On this day, 51 years ago, June 7, 1974 (April 17, 1974 in the lunar calendar),"Sun Tzu's Art of War" and "Sun Bin's Art of War" were unearthed. "Sun Bin's Art of War" is a famous military book in ancient China and another masterpiece of the "Sun Tzu School" after "The Art of War". "Sun Bin's Art of War" was originally called "Sun Tzu of Qi". The author was Sun Bin. It is said that he was a descendant of Sun Wu. He was born between Ah and Ju in the Qi State during the Warring States Period (in today's Yanggu and Juancheng areas in Shandong Province). He once studied the art of war with Pang Juan. Pang Juan assisted King Hui of Wei and became a general. He secretly sent people to invite Sun Bin to Wei. However, when he saw Sun Bin, he was jealous that his talents were above his own. Later, he framed Sun Bin and used Bin Punishment on him, which is a cruel corporal punishment to remove the kneecaps. Therefore, people later called him Sun Bin. With the help of friends, Sun Bin finally fled the State of Wei and went to the State of Qi. He was reused by King Wei of Qi and became the military counselor of General Tian Ji of Qi. He devised a strange plan to defeat the Wei army and shot Pang Juan to death. Later, Tian Ji was ostracized by Zou Ji and exiled to Chu. Sun Bin probably followed him, so Wang Fu of the Han nationality said,"Sun Bin cultivated in Chu." Among the military strategists of the Warring States Period, Sun Bin was famous for his "noble power", that is, his emphasis on flexibility. He and Wu Qi were both famous military strategists at that time. The earliest clear record of Sun Bin's art of war is "Historical Records"."Han Shu·Yi Wen Zhi" juxtaposes it with "The Art of War of Wu Sun" and records 89 chapters and four volumes of "Qi Sun Zi". According to textual research, the loss of Sun Bin's Art of War probably occurred before the Tang Dynasty. Because "Notes on Sun Tzu by Emperor Wu of Wei" mentioned "Sun Bin said: I am afraid that the army will not be thrown into the dead", and Zhao Rui of the Tang Dynasty also mentioned "Sun Bin said: I am afraid that the army will not be saved." Volume 9 of Du You's "Tong Dian" contains a paragraph "Sun Bin said: There are ten advantages in riding", but it has not been recorded since the Sui Shu·Jing Ji Zhi. On June 7, 1974,"Sun Bin's Art of War" was unearthed in Han Tomb No. 1 Yinque Mountain, Linyi, Shandong Province, which enabled the long-lost ancient book to be seen again. The bamboo slips edition of Sun Bin's Art of War has been carefully sorted out and divided into two parts: the upper part and the lower part. The upper part can be identified as belonging to the 15 chapters of Qi Sun Tzu, including "Qin Pang Juan","Seeing the King of Wei","Wen of the King of Wei" and "Chen Ji Wen Lei"; the second part is a work on military that cannot yet be identified as belonging to the "Sun Tzu of Qi." The number of bamboo slips is much less than that of the bibliography of Yi Wenzhi, and it is not a complete edition.
