The Northern and Southern Dynasties (420 - 589), the Northern and Southern Dynasties period was a period of great division in China's history after the two Jin Dynasties. It began in 420 AD and ended in 589, a total of 169 years.

Yang Jian(541-604) was born in Huayin, Hongnong (now Huayin, Shaanxi). The founding emperor of the Sui Dynasty, his temple name was Gaozu, and his posthumous name was Emperor Wen.

Yang Jian's father, Yang Zhong, was one of the twelve generals of the Western Wei Dynasty and was named Duke of Sui. After Yang Zhong's death, Yang Jian invaded his father, and his daughter was the empress of Emperor Xuandi Zhou. After Emperor Xuandi Zhou's death, Zhou Jing Emperor Yuwen, who was only eight years old, ascended the throne and called Yang Jian to the palace to assist in the government, and to take over the military and political power. He was known as "the false prime minister of Huang Yue Zuo", and the governor of the internal and external military. On February Jiazi Day in 581 AD, Emperor Zhou Jingdi issued an edict to make concessions to Yang Jian's people. Yang Jian gave in three times and was ordered by heaven to enter the palace from the prime minister's mansion. The ceremony was that the emperor was located in the hall of Linguang, and the country name was Da Sui. He was changed to the founding emperor of the Yuan Dynasty and announced the amnesty of the world. In all the Chinese dynasties, he was recognized as He managed it carefully, and the Sui Dynasty quickly became powerful and prosperous.

Emperor Wen of the Sui Dynasty ended the long-term chaos in China and conquered the barbarians of all ethnic groups, which brought China back to the era of peace. In the same year, the Ryukyu Islands were surrendered to the Sui Dynasty.
