Thirty years ago today, September 16, 1995 (August 22, 1995 in the lunar calendar), a military parade in Mexico City crashed. September 16, 1995 is the 185th anniversary of Mexico's independence. That morning, a grand military parade was held on Constitution Plaza in the center of Mexico. President Zedillo, accompanied by Defense Minister Cervantes and Navy Minister Franco, joined tens of thousands of citizens to review the troops of the Army, Navy and Air Force. At 11 a.m., the military parade began. A phalanx of troops from the three armed forces participating in the military parade passed through the square.
