Born in Augsburg, Bavaria, on February 9, 1873, German chemist Oyler Scherpin worked with enzymes to study medical and genetic problems. He discovered that enzyme inhibitors and enzymes could combine to form very stable complexes, for which he and Arthur Hatton won the 1929 Nobel Prize in Chemistry.
