Liu Chong proclaimed himself emperor in Jinyang and established the Northern Han Dynasty

Liu Chong (895-954), later renamed Yan, was a member of the Shatuo tribe. In the later Han Dynasty, he served as the envoy of Hedong Jiedu.

In the first month of 951, after Guo Cheng was established as emperor, Liu Yun, the nephew of Emperor Gaozu of Han, was the Duke of Xiangyin, and soon killed him. Liu Chongtuan, the younger brother of Emperor Gaozu of Han, fought for power with Guo Wei, and had a long-standing gap. Seeing that Guo Cheng killed Liu Yun to seize power, he called himself emperor. On February 24, 951 (the fifteenth day of the first month of the fourth year after Han Qianyou), he changed his name to Min and established himself as emperor in Jinyang (now Taiyuan). The country name Han, because Han occupied the 12 states of the Communist Party, Fen, Xin and Dai in the Hedong area, was also the only country in the north among the ten kingdoms. It was known as the Northern Han Dynasty in history, and Liu Chong was the ancestor of the Northern Han Dynasty Liu Chong called "nephew" to the Khitan monarch, so he was called "nephew emperor". He colluded with the Khitan, attacked Jinzhou, and supported the next Zaixing army in the Khitan, and was later defeated by Zhou Shizong.

It was destroyed by the Northern Song Dynasty in 979.
