On social media, Mr. Havlicek, the first vice-chairperson of the Disaffected Citizens Action party, said the attack was the result of "hate" propaganda by political opponents.
Czech Prime Minister Fiala and Interior Minister Rakushan condemned the attack. Rakushan stressed that any form of violence is unacceptable. Czech Republic will hold parliamentary elections on October 3-4 this year.
Babis became Czech Prime Minister in December 2017. In October 2021, the Dissatisfied Civil Action Party narrowly lost to Fiala's "Together" party coalition in the lower house election, and Babis stepped down.
