Swiss mathematician and physicist Balmer was born

On May 1, 1825, Swiss mathematician and physicist Johan Jacob Balmer was born. The main contribution is the establishment of an empirical formula for the spectral wavelength of hydrogen atoms-Balmer's formula.
Born on May 1, 1825 in Lausanne, Switzerland, he is the eldest son of his family. During his college years, he studied at the University of Karlsruhe and the University of Berlin in Germany to study mathematics. In 1846, he returned to Switzerland and served as an engineering drawing teacher at his alma mater, Basel Middle School, in high school. In 1849 Balmer received his doctorate from the University of Basel in Switzerland for his thesis on cycloids. Since 1859, he has served as a mathematics teacher at the Women's School in Basel, Switzerland, and from 1865 to 1890 he served as a lecturer at the University of Basel, Switzerland. In 1868, he married Christine Pauline Rinck and had six children. In 1887 Balmer published a monograph "A Course in Projective Geometry". He died in Basel in 1898 at the age of 72.
