On May 28, 1964, more than 400 representatives of Palestine and Arab countries held a Palestinian National Assembly in Jerusalem and decided to establish the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO). Palestine is located on the eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea, bordering Lebanon to the north, Syria and Jordan to the east. It is connected to the Red Sea and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula in the south and southwest. It covers an area of 27,000 square kilometers. Historically, it was inhabited by Arabs and Jews. In order to oppose Israel's aggression and expansion and restore national rights, the Palestinian people have waged a long struggle. The PLO was born under this circumstance. As soon as the PLO was established, it received the support and recognition of Arab countries. In September 1964, the Second Arab Summit unanimously recognized the PLO as the representative of the Palestinian people. In October 1974, the Seventh Arab Summit held in Rabat stressed that the PLO is the only legitimate representative of the Palestinian people. In September 1976, the PLO became a full member of the Arab League. There are 8 nationalist organizations and guerrilla organizations participating in the PLO, they are: the Palestinian National Liberation Movement; the Vanguard of the People's Liberation War; the People's Front for the Liberation of Palestine; the Democratic People's Front for the Liberation of Palestine; the General Command of the People's Front for the Liberation of Palestine; the Palestine Liberation Front. The Arab Front for the Liberation of Palestine; the Palestinian People's Struggle Front. The highest authority of the Palestine Liberation Organization is the Palestine National Council, which elects the Palestine Liberation Organization Executive Committee and handles daily work. The committee consists of 8 ministries including military, culture and education, politics and international relations, the Palestine National Fund, social affairs, occupied territories, press and state guidance, and mass organizations. The leader of the Palestinian National Liberation Movement is Yasser Arafat, who has been the chairperson of the PLO Executive Committee since 1969. Since its establishment, the PLO has been waging various struggles for the establishment of an independent national state on the land of Palestine. The just struggle of the PLO has been supported by more and more countries. The organization has offices or diplomatic representatives in various Arab countries as well as in many countries such as China, Korea, Cuba, Britain, and France. On November 13, 1974, Arafat led the PLO delegation to attend the 29th session of the United Nations General Assembly and participated in discussions on the question of Palestine. On November 22, the General Assembly passed a resolution inviting the PLO to participate in the meetings and work of the General Assembly as a permanent observer, and to participate in all international conferences sponsored by the United Nations General Assembly and other UN agencies. On November 15, 1988, Palestine finally became an independent state.
