February 25, 1949 The cruiser "Chongqing" Uprising
On this day 76 years ago, on February 25, 1949 (January 28, 1949 lunar calendar), the cruiser "Chongqing" revolted. "Chongqing" was anchored in Yantai Port On the morning of February 25, 1949, the cruiser "Chongqing", the largest combat ship in the Kuomintang Navy, staged an uprising, left Wusongkou, and rushed to the liberated area. The uprising was successful. The ship was leased from the United Kingdom in February 1948, with a displacement of 5,270 tons and a crew of 600. It was well-equipped, with the strongest firepower, the fastest speed and the largest drainage in the Kuomintang Navy. After the Huaihai Campaign, the ship was ordered to guard the Yangtze River and berthed at Wusongkou, Shanghai. Under the leadership of Bi Zhongyuan, a member of the Communist Party of China, the captain Deng Zhaoxiang led the whole ship's officers and men to stage an uprising. He arrived in the liberated area of Yantai on the 26th and joined the People's Liberation Army. He was praised by Mao Zedong and Zhu De. The uprising of the "Chongqing" shocked both Chinese and foreign countries. Gui Yongqing, the commander of the Kuomintang Navy, was removed from his post and retained, and the British government also took back another warship leased to the Nationalist government.
