Breaking-News >> TodayHistory On June 25, 1982, Italian workers went on strike
On this day 43 years ago, on June 25, 1982 (May 5, 1982 lunar calendar), Italian workers went on strike. The economic crisis of 1979 caused the Italian economy to stagnate. The government took measures such as increasing taxes, reducing social benefits, controlling wage growth, and tightening credit to deal with inflation. The management fired workers in large numbers, cut working hours, and delayed the renewal of labor contracts, which intensified the contradictions between labor and management. The Italian General Trade Union, the Labor Federation, and the Labor Federation launched many workers' strikes and demonstrations to protest. On June 25, 1982, a nationwide general strike broke out in Italy, with 4 million participants. Strikes spread across all industries across the country. The duration, scale, and number of industries involved in strikes were rare in Italy after the war. It was not until August 1983 that Clarksey came to power that the situation was stabilized.
