On this day, 39 years ago, on July 8, 1986 (June 2, 1986, the lunar calendar), my country's domestic satellite communication network was completed. Li Peng, then Vice Premier of the State Council, cut the ribbon for the opening of the domestic satellite communication network and delivered an important speech. After two years of hard work, my country's domestic satellite communication network was officially completed on July 8, 1986. Communication satellites are a modern way to achieve regional communications using synchronous satellites located at an altitude of 36,000 kilometers above the earth's equator as relay stations. At present, more than 20 countries in the world have established domestic satellite communication networks. The completion of my country's domestic satellite communication network marks another step towards modernization in my country's communications industry. It creates a good way for the nationwide delivery of comprehensive television and television educational programs. It also plays an important role in improving the backward situation of post and telecommunications in remote areas of my country. Our country has a vast territory, and the existing open-wire, cable, and microwave communication networks can no longer meet the needs of modernization. Satellite communication is an important communication means created by the combination of modern aerospace technology and rapidly developing electronic technology. Compared with open-wire, cable, microwave and other communication methods, satellite communication has the advantages of long transmission distance, large communication capacity, good communication quality, and low construction cost. my country's current satellite communication network is composed of leasing and purchasing satellite transponders from the International Satellite Communications Organization over the Indian Ocean. It can connect the five earth stations of Beijing, Lhasa, Urumqi, Hohhot and Guangzhou, covering the entire territory of my country. At present, semi-automatic long-distance telephone, telegram, data and fax services between Beijing and Urumqi, Hohhot and Lhasa have been opened; At the same time, Beijing Central Station sends CCTV's first program and the State Education Commission's correspondence teaching TV programs to the whole country. 400 and 100 television receiving stations across the country receive them in time respectively and send them to thousands of households through local relay stations. Since 1984, my country has successfully launched five communication satellites. Together with rented international satellite transponders, these five satellites form my country's current practical communication and broadcasting space system. At present, my country has more than 40 satellite communication ground stations, nearly 200 data transmission stations, and about 15,000 satellite TV receiving stations. The opening of the domestic satellite communication network not only helps solve the urgent communication needs of remote provinces and regions and some departments, but also serves as an important transmission means of long-distance communication, enhances the mobility and reliability of the communication network and promotes information exchange and economic development., is of great significance.
