In June 1931, he participated in the third "encirclement and suppression" campaign against the Central Revolutionary Base Area. His troops were completely wiped out by the Red Army and he was demoted to the position of deputy commander of the 52nd Division. In the autumn of 1933, he participated in the fifth "encirclement and suppression" campaign and served as chief of staff of the East Route Army. In December 1936, Dai Gu exercised the powers of chairman of the Guizhou Province Government. Later, he served as Chairman and Director of the General Office of Xi'an Operations Director. In August 1937, he served as Acting Commander-in-Chief of the 24th Group Army and Acting Chairman of the Jiangsu Province Government. In the autumn of 1938, he served as deputy commander-in-chief of the Sulu Theater, commander of the 89th Army, and chairman of the Jiangsu Province Government. He repeatedly attacked the New Fourth Army and the Anti-Japanese Guerrillas, creating friction incidents. He was captured by the New Fourth Army in the spring of 1943 and later released. In the spring of 1944, he was appointed as commander-in-chief of the guerrillas of Jiangsu, Shandong and Anhui, and still served as chairman of Jiangsu Province. That was the winter of the year when he was transferred to deputy commander of the third theater. In 1946, he served as deputy director of the Xuzhou Pacification Office and participated in the anti-Communist civil war. In January 1949, he served as deputy commander-in-chief of the Joint Logistics Headquarters of the Ministry of National Defense of the Nanjing Government. He retreated to Taipei in March of that year. He served as strategic adviser to the "Presidential Office". Retired in 1953.
