On this day 68 years ago, December 7, 1957 (October 16, 1957 lunar calendar), our country's first five-year plan was completed. On the afternoon of December 7, 1957, Li Fuchun, then Vice Premier of the State Council, delivered a report at the meeting held at the Eighth National Congress of Chinese Trade Unions, entitled "On the achievements of our country's first five-year plan and the tasks and guidelines for future socialist construction." In this report, he detailed the tasks and guidelines for our country's great development of the entire national economy and future socialist construction in the implementation of the first five-year plan. Li Fuchun said that with the efforts of the working class and all the people across the country, the first five-year plan for the development of our country's national economy has been completed and exceeded. During the first five-year plan, our country not only established a socialist political and economic system, but also established a preliminary foundation for socialist industrialization. However, he pointed out that our country has not yet built socialism and is still in a transitional period.
