On June 29, 2010, Hungarian Parliament Chairman Schmitt was elected as the new president
On June 29, 2010 (May 18, 2010 in the lunar calendar), Hungarian Parliament Chairman Schmitt was elected as the new president. The Hungarian Parliament held a presidential election on the afternoon of June 29, 2010. Schmitt Parr, the presidential candidate recommended by the ruling party, the Youth League and the current chairman of the Parliament, was elected as the new president of Hungary. The Hungarian Parliament has a total of 386 seats, while the Youth Duni-Christian Democratic Party ruling coalition has 261 seats in the Parliament, more than two-thirds of the total number of seats. Therefore, this was a presidential election without suspense, and a new president was produced after a round of voting in Congress. A total of two presidential candidates competed. The other candidate is Hungarian Ambassador to Bangkok Borog András, who was recommended by the largest opposition Socialist Party. There were 366 MPs voting, with Schmitt receiving 263 votes, Borog receiving 59 votes, and 44 votes were invalid. Hungarian law stipulates that three rounds of voting can be held in the parliamentary election of the president. In the first round of voting, the candidate who obtains two-thirds of the votes, that is, at least 258 votes, is elected president. If no one obtains two-thirds of the votes, a new vote will be required. In the second round of voting, candidates still need to obtain two-thirds of the votes to be elected, otherwise a third round of voting will be held. In the third round of voting, candidates only need to obtain a simple majority to be elected president. Schmitt was born on May 13, 1942 and won the Olympic fencing championship twice. On May 14 this year, Schmitt was elected chairman of the Hungarian Parliament. Comment: Athletes can become presidents, and Western education and democracy are enviable
