On December 24, 1999, former French Prime Minister Maurice Gouf Demvier died in Paris at the age of 92. Gouf Demvier was Prime Minister of the French government from July 1968 to June 1969. He was the last prime minister during the reign of General de Gaulle and a loyal executor of General de Gaulle's foreign policy. He participated in the negotiations for France to withdraw from the NATO military integration organization. Gouf Demvier was born in Reims, northeastern France, and studied at the University of Paris and the Paris Political School in his early years.
