January 15, 1929 The birth of Martin Luther King Jr., the leader of the American civil rights movement
96 years ago today, January 15, 1929 (December 5, 1928 in the lunar calendar), the birth of Martin Luther King Jr., the leader of the American civil rights movement. On January 15, 1929, Martin Luther King Jr. was born in a small Victoria building at 501 Auburn Street, Atlanta, USA. His father is a priest and his mother is a teacher. From his mother, he learned how to love, sympathize and understand others; from his father, he learned courage, strength, directness and honesty. But living in the ghetto, he also felt the dignity of his personality and the pain of being black. At the age of 15, the intelligent and studious Jin entered Morehouse College with excellent results to study sociology and later obtained a bachelor of arts degree. Despite the rapid economic development of the United States after the war, its strong political and military power enabled it to become the leader of the "free world". However, black people in the country are discriminated against and oppressed economically and politically. Faced with ugly reality, King determined to fight for social equality and justice as a priest. He attended Klazer Theological Seminary and Boston University. After receiving his doctorate in theology in 1955, he became a minister at Texas Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama. In December 1955, Montgomery Festival police arrested Rosa Parks, a black woman, for violating bus seat segregation regulations. King and several black activists organized the Montgomery Municipal Improvement Association, which called on nearly 50,000 blacks in the city to boycott public law and corporations for a year, forcing the court to cancel the seat segregation on local transportation vehicles. This was the first time that black people in the southern United States won the struggle with their own strength, which kicked off the civil rights movement that lasted for more than 10 years and also made Dr. King the leader of the civil rights movement. On April 4, 1968, King was assassinated by racists. The U.S. government has stipulated that since 1986, the third Monday in January is the National Day of Remembrance of Martin Luther King Jr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was born in this house.
