Denikin (1872-1947) was Chief of Staff of the Russian Provisional Government and Commander of the Western Front and Southwest Front. After the October Revolution, rebellion broke out in the North Caucasus and the southern Don River Basin, and Denikin echoed when Kolchak launched an attack on Soviet power in the spring of 1919. After the defeat of Kolchak, the Allies provided Denikin with a large amount of human and material assistance and helped Denikin train 150,000 troops. In June 1919, Denikin's troops invaded north in three routes and occupied Sevastopol and Tsaritzin. On July 3, Denikin issued an order to attack Moscow and occupied Kiev and most of Ukraine by the end of August. On September 3, another order was issued to attack Moscow.
