Ferdinand Magellan

In March 1521, the fleet finally reached three inhabited islands. These islands were some of the islands in the Mariana Islands. The indigenous people on the islands were dark skinned and tall. They were naked, but they wore palm leaves. Hat. Enthusiastic islanders brought them grain, fruits and vegetables. While surprised, the crew all felt sincerely grateful for the enthusiasm of the residents. However, since the locals had never seen such a spectacular fleet of ships, they showed novelty about everything on board, so they removed some items from the ship. When the crew realized it, they shouted loudly and regarded them as bandits. They also renamed the island "Bandits Island." When the islanders stole a lifeboat tied to the stern, Magellan was so angry that he led a team of armed men to the coast, shot and killed seven indigenous people, and set fire to dozens of huts and dozens of boats. So he left a very shameful page in Magellan's voyage diary.

The fleet headed further west to what is now the Philippine Islands. At this time, Magellan and his companions finally completed the first feat of crossing the Pacific Ocean, confirming the existence of a vast area of water between America and Asia. This water is much wider than the Atlantic Ocean. It took Columbus only two months and a few days to cross the Atlantic for the first time, but Magellan took more than a hundred days to cross the Pacific despite the fine weather and a smooth journey.

Magellan crossed the Pacific Ocean for the first time, creating a revolution in the history of geography and navigation. It proves that most of the earth's surface is not land, but oceans, and the oceans around the world are not isolated from each other, but a unified complete body of water. This played a pioneering role in the navigation industry of future generations.
