On March 14, 1964, during the trial of Jack Ruby for the murder of Kennedy's assassin Lee Harvey Oswald, the jury declared: "We agree to the indictment and find the defendant guilty of premeditated murder, and therefore sentence him to death." Ruby's lawyers severely berated the jury in front of a million television viewers, calling the verdict a "gross miscarriage of justice."
