Marshal of Jinggang: Peng Dehuai Peng Dehuai was a famous strategist and politician in our country. Back then, he "swung his sword and rode his horse" and made illustrious achievements. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, he worked diligently, sought truth from facts, and made outstanding contributions to socialist construction. His life was brave and good at fighting, diligent and aboveboard. Peng Dehuai was born on October 24, 1898 in a poor peasant family in Xiangtan County, Hunan Province. Since he was 11 years old, he has been herding cattle for landlords. He also worked as a coal kiln worker and a soil picker, and suffered from the bullying and oppression of landlords and capitalists. In 1916, forced by life and influenced by the progressive thoughts of the Revolution of 1911, he joined the Hunan Army as a soldier and gradually became an officer in the old army. After that, he joined the Communist Party of China and determined the revolutionary path of his life. Mr. Peng's life is inseparable from the military. He organized and commanded nearly 200 major battles and battles in his life, demonstrated outstanding military ability, and was praised by the China people. Foreign friends also called him "a China general who won every battle" and "a hero who created a miracle of war." After the liberation, Mr. Peng never took pride in himself. He treated the sufferings of the people as his own business and often asked himself with Lu Xun's poem,"Facing the fingers of thousands of people with cold eyebrows, and bowing his head to be willing to be a cow." During the "Great Leap Forward" era, Peng Dehuai came to his hometown in Xiangtan, Hunan Province. He visited during the day and had discussions at night. He saw with his own eyes the current situation of the countryside and obtained first-hand information. He deeply felt that ironmaking in small blast furnaces was too costly and was not the direction of development. In the nursing home, he saw the elderly eating melons and vegetables, sleeping on bamboo mats in winter, and covering them with broken quilts. He couldn't help but say: "What kind of happy home is this? It has a name but no name!" Schools there stipulate that students must live on campus, but students 'food rations are not enough. He told the responsible comrades of the provincial party committee who accompanied him: "Students have little food rations and poor life. It is better to put them at home and be taken care of by their parents. Otherwise, if this continues, the children's bodies will be damaged." On the eve of the 10th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, Peng Dehuai moved out of Zhongnanhai and moved to Guanjiatun in the western suburbs of Beijing, where he lived in Wujia Garden. There, his heart was closer to the people. He connected the water pipes in his yard to the street, allowing every household to use tap water; on rainy days, he invited dilapidated households to live in his yard; he asked about who was born, old, sick, or dead, and the sufferings and cries of the people hit his heart all the time.
