The first National Games opened on October 18, 1910
115 years ago today, on October 18, 1910 (September 16, 1910, the first National Games opened. The "China National School District Games" held in Nanjing on October 18, 1910 was later ratified by the government of the Republic of China as the first National Games. In 1910, China held its first expo in Nanjing, also known as the Nanyang Queyan Fair. This was the prototype of the earliest World Expo held in China. At that time, a Spanish missionary from the YMCA, Axner, felt that the opportunity was rare, so through the Shanghai Youth Association, he initiated a national-scale sports competition. In fact, this was a "imitation Olympics" inspired by the modern Olympic Games. Because the 1900 Paris Olympics in France and the 1904 St. Louis Olympics in the United States were both models of Olympic Expositions. This initiative aroused enthusiastic response from society, and some provinces and schools quickly organized sports teams. A sports event was held in Nanjing from October 18th to 22nd. This sports meeting became a side gathering of the earliest expo in China. At that time, an organizational structure was established, called the First National School Division Sports League. The sports meeting was called the "China National School Division Games", referred to as the National Academic Games for short. There are only four events in the competition, men's track and field, football, basketball and tennis. The track and field competition is divided into three groups: senior, intermediate and school. As a result of the competition, Shanghai won the track and field and tennis championships in the senior group, ranking first in the total score, and Shanghai St. John's University won the first place in the school group. Because at that time, sports were not concerned by ordinary people, and there was no correct name for this sports meeting, there was very little information. At present, only brief news has been found in newspapers at that time. However, in China at that time, sports meetings were undoubtedly new things. Although the results were mediocre, they aroused people's interest and attention in sports. According to scholars 'textual research, the Nanyang Queyi Fair and sports competitions are held in today's Xuanwu Gate area in Nanjing. Because it was not the main residential area at that time and was relatively empty. In order to hold career fairs and competitions, Xuanwu Gate was specially opened at that time, which was then called Fengrun Gate. Nanjing now also has the "Quanye Village" residential area that retains the name of Quanye Hui, as well as sites such as Quanye Hui Railway Station. After the Revolution of 1911, the government regarded this Games as the first National Games. The government also built the Central Stadium in Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum District, which is the seat of today's Nanjing Institute of Physical Education, where a total of three National Games were held. Comment: Now that the country is strong, the National Games is getting bigger and bigger.
