40 years ago today, on December 25, 1985 (November 14, 1985 lunar calendar), the first spectroscopic photograph of Halley's Comet was obtained in China. On December 25, 1985, the Yunnan Observatory successfully took the spectroscopic photograph of Halley's Comet. Halley's Comet was named after the British astronomer and mathematician Halley (Edmond) observed and predicted its re-entry. It was the first comet to predict the year of return, thus proving that some comets are members of the solar system.
