Breaking-News >> TodayHistory On November 10, 1990, Hubble Telescope observed quasars for the first time
Thirty-five years ago today, on November 10, 1990 (September 24, 1990), the Hubble Space Telescope observed a quasar for the first time. On November 10, 1990, NASA announced that the Hubble Space Telescope, launched by the United States in April 1990, recently made the first observation of the chemical structure of a quasar 1 billion light-years from Earth. The quasar, named Um675, was the first observation target of the Hubble Space Telescope's Spectrograph of Dim Objects and is currently moving away from Earth at 240,000 kilometers per second. NASA officials say observations and analysis of the quasar's chemical structure will provide clues to the chemistry that existed in the early days of the universe. Quasars are the brightest celestial bodies in the universe, emitting a considerable amount of energy. Although they were discovered about 30 years ago, scientists still know very little about them.
