The world's first large-scale and authoritative multimedia Chinese electronic dictionary "Chinese Dictionary" CD-ROM has been successfully developed after three years of efforts by Chinese Dictionary Publishing House and Commercial Press (Hong Kong) Co., Ltd., and will be available to readers on September 4, 1998. "Chinese Dictionary" is the largest Chinese dictionary in China's history compiled by more than 1,000 experts and scholars in our country after 18 years of careful compilation. It was officially published in 1993, setting up a milestone in the history of Chinese lexicography, and was called by General Secretary Jiang Zemin as "a major event for the country". The electronic version of "Chinese Dictionary" developed on the basis of the printed version of "Chinese Dictionary" concentrates the 12 volumes of Yangyang books on a thin plate and includes the main content of the original dictionary, including 29,000 Chinese characters, 340,000 multiple compound words, 23,000 multiple idioms, 510,000 multiple interpretations, 10,000 multiple related word lists, more than 500 pictures, etc.
