57 years ago today, April 16, 1968 (March 19, 1968 in the lunar calendar), Mao Zedong issued a statement in support of the struggle of black Americans. On April 16, 1968, the "Statement of Mao Zedong, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, Supporting the Struggle of Black Americans" was issued. Mao Zedong pointed out: "The anti-violence struggle of black Americans is not only the struggle of exploited and oppressed blacks for freedom and liberation, but also a new clarion call for the entire oppressed and exploited American people to oppose the brutal rule of the monopoly bourgeoisie."
