D. at the University of Paris and later served as a professor there. The main early contributions were to determine the transition temperature (Curie temperature) of magnetic substances, establish Curie's law and discover the piezoelectric phenomenon of crystals. Later, he and Madame Curie jointly studied radioactive phenomena and discovered two natural radioactive elements, polonium and radium. For his contribution to the study of radioactive phenomena, he won the 1903 Nobel Prize in Physics with Burke and Madame Curie.
