On July 1, 2001 (May 11, 2001 in the lunar calendar), the Longtan Hydropower Station, an important landmark project of "transmitting electricity from west to east", started construction. At 4:58 pm on July 1, 2001, with the "rumbling" sound of the first blasting of the left bank dam abutment, the Longtan Hydropower Station located in the upper reaches of the Hongshui River in Tian'e County, Guangxi, officially started construction. The Longtan Hydropower Station Project is an important landmark project for the country to implement the large-scale development of the western region and the "transmission of electricity from west to east". Longtan Hydropower Station is located in the upper reaches of the Hongshui River, with a planned total installed capacity of 5.4 million kilowatts. Nine 600,000 kilowatts hydro-generator units are installed, with an average annual power generation capacity of 18.7 billion kilowatts. It will be constructed in two phases. In this phase, the installed capacity of the construction will be 4.2 million kilowatts, and 7 600,000 kilowatts hydro-generator units will be installed, with an average annual power generation of 15.6 billion kilowatt hours. Longtan Hydropower Station is the second largest hydropower project in my country after the Three Gorges Project. The project is expected to achieve the closure of the Yangtze River in 2003, store water at the lower gate in November 2006, and generate electricity at the first unit on July 1, 2007. In December 2009, the project was completed. According to the price level in 2001, the static investment of the Longtan Hydropower Station project is 20.37 billion yuan, and the total investment of the project is 24.3 billion yuan.
