He visited China in July 1990 and advocated strengthening friendly and cooperative relations between Japan and China on many occasions. Miyazawa has two younger brothers. Yasu Miyazawa was Japan's ambassador to West Germany, and Hiroshi Miyazawa is a member of the Senate. Miyazawa married Yongko, the daughter of a professor at Waseda University, in 1943, and had a son and a daughter.
