On October 27, 1991, Comrade Du Pengcheng, a famous contemporary writer who was famous at home and abroad for his novel "Defending Yan'an", died of illness in Xi'an at the age of 70. Among them, the novel "Defending Yan'an" is the first famous work eulogizing the people's war of liberation in the early days of our country. It is known as a milestone in our country's novels describing modern wars, and it successfully shaped the artistic image of Marshal Peng Dehuai for the first time in the history of contemporary literature. Some of his works have been translated into various foreign languages and published. Many works such as "In the Days of Peace" and "Footsteps of History" have been highly praised by the literary world. Du Pengcheng has served as a military reporter of Xinhua News Agency, the Xinjiang branch chief of Xinhua News Agency, the director of the China Writers Association, the vice chairperson of the Shaanxi Provincial Federation of Literary and Art Circles, and the vice chairperson of the Provincial Writers Association. He is also a representative of the 12th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, a member of the second and third sessions of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and a member of the Standing Committee of the Fifth Shaanxi Provincial People's Congress.
