Breaking-News >> TodayHistory On November 21, 1986, Hangzhou's century-old "Nanping Evening Bell" was reborn
On this day 39 years ago, on November 21, 1986 (October 20, 1986 lunar calendar), Hangzhou's 100-year-old "Nanping Evening Bell" was reborn. "Nanping Evening Bell" is one of the famous ten sights of the West Lake. At about ten o'clock in the morning on November 21, 1986, 108 powerful and majestic bells echoed over the mountains and Bihu Lake in Hangzhou, announcing the rebirth of the 100-year-old "Nanping Evening Bell". "Nanping Evening Bell" is the beautiful name of Jingci Temple and one of the famous ten sights of the West Lake. The bronze bell quietly disappeared during the years of war, and the bell was silent for nearly a hundred years. The current bell was recast with the help of the Japanese Buddhist community in October 1984. Hanging in the rebuilt second-floor three-eaves bell tower is a huge bronze bell, 3.6 meters high, 2.3 meters in diameter, weighing 10 tons, and can last for 120 seconds. Opposite Leifeng Xizhao, the Nanping Evening Bell and the tower shadow bell make up two of the most fascinating evening scenes in the ten scenes of West Lake. Jingci Temple is also accompanied by the myths and legends of Ji Gong, and the temple has "Divine Luck Wells". Jingci Temple at the northern foot of Nanping Mountain was founded in the first year of Zhou Xiande (954 AD) after five generations, and has a history of more than 1,065 years. It was built by Uncle Qian Hong, King of Wuyue, to support the founder of Nanshan Buddhism, Yongming Zen Master, formerly known as "Huiri Yongming Zen Yuan". It is located in the Nanping Mountain where the strange stone is like a barrier. In the Southern Song Dynasty, it was renamed "Jingci Temple", and together with Lingyin Temple, Zhaoqing Temple, and Shengyin Temple, it was called "the four major jungles of the West Lake". When Jingci Temple was first built, there was a bell tower. In the eleventh year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty (1378 AD), he thought the old bell was too small, so he recast a huge bell weighing 10 tons. Because of the loud sound of the bell, and the many holes in Nanping Mountain behind the temple, the evening bell rang, and the bell echoed through the hole, spreading through the valley, floating more than half of Hangzhou. During the Qing Kangxi's southern tour, the sky was about to break, "The night is clear, and all the people are silent. At first, the bell rang and rang into the sky, which was thought-provoking." The reason was changed to "Nanping Evening Bell". News raw data sources → https://www.abtool.cn/today_detail/15pr.html 17WorldNews[2025.09.10-08:57] 访问:81
