Taiwan's China Airlines Captain Wang Xijue flew over Guangzhou in a cargo plane. On May 3, 1986, a Boeing 747 cargo plane of Taiwan's China Airlines landed at Guangzhou Baiyun Airport. The incident led to the first direct negotiation between the mainland of China and Taiwan in 37 years. On May 3, Taiwan's "China Airlines" cargo plane B198 flew back to Taiwan from Bangkok via Hong Kong. On the way, the captain of the plane, Wang Xijue, asked to settle down in the mainland and reunite with his family. Dong Guangxing and Qiu Mingzhi, the co-pilots on the same plane, asked to return to Taiwan.
