On December 28, 1992, Jiang Shengjie, a well-known scientist who had made outstanding contributions to the development of my country's chemical and nuclear industries, especially the "two bombs" cause, was on his way to other places to perform official duties. He died in Chongqing due to a heart attack and failed to rescue him. He was 77 years old. Jiang Shengjie is a native of Lindian County, Heilongjiang Province. He received a master's degree in science from the University of Colombia in the United States in his early years. He returned to China in 1950 and joined the Communist Party of China in 1956. He pursued science and technology throughout his life. From 1936 to 1962, he was mainly devoted to the chemical industry. He successively worked in Sichuan Yonglichuan Plant, Nanjing Yongli Ning Plant, Nanjing Chemical Industry Company and East China Chemical Research and Design Institute, and served as chief engineer and dean. In 1963, he was ordered to participate in the "two bombs" venture and served as deputy director of the Second Machinery Department and director of the Science and Technology Committee of the Ministry of Nuclear Industry. He has made a series of creative and major scientific and technological achievements in the fields of inorganic and nuclear chemicals. While working in the chemical industry, he received special commendations from the State Council for completing more than 100 chemical technology innovations. As the general technical director, he organized the construction and operation of my country's first large-scale military production reactor and the first nuclear fuel reprocessing plant, making important contributions to the development of the "two bombs". He was awarded the special prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award and the second prize of the National Invention Award. He was also awarded the Knight of the Legion of Honor awarded by the President of France. He is a prestigious scientist with profound knowledge and rigorous scholarship. Jiang Shengjie is an active advocate and practitioner of the peaceful development of nuclear energy and the development of nuclear power. He often guides the development and construction of the Qinshan Nuclear Power Plant and its supporting nuclear fuel cycle, and plays an important role in promoting the application of nuclear science and technology in various fields of the national economy, cultivating and cultivating my country's nuclear science and technology talents, and promoting international nuclear energy cooperation. He presided over the establishment of the National Nuclear Security Administration and served as the first director, and did many pioneering work to establish my country's nuclear safety management system. Jiang Shengjie is a member of the Faculty of China Academy of Sciences, honorary chairman of the China Nuclear Society, director of the National Nuclear Security Expert Committee, and a representative of the 6th and 7th National People's Congress.
