Rule of Terror-Robespierre Maximilien Francois Marie Isidore de Robespierre (6 May 1758 - 28 July 1794) was a French revolutionary and one of the leaders of the Jacobin government. In 1789, he was elected as a representative to the Third Estate. He spoke more than 500 times in the National Assembly and proposed many democratic measures. He participated in leading the trial of Louis XVI. The period of the reign of terror (French: Terreur), also known as the Jacobin dictatorship, was the name for the period of France ruled by the Jacobins led by Robespierre during the French Revolution from 1793 to 1794. On May 31, 1793, he led the French people's uprising, overthrew the Girondists and established the Jacobin dictatorship. During his reign, he tried to realize Rousseau's popular sovereignty and the political ideal of a bourgeois democratic republic. He took a series of political, economic, military, cultural and religious measures to crush the plots of domestic and foreign enemies to subvert the republic, safeguard the fruits of the revolution, and push the Great Revolution to a climax. But he opposed the free and equal division of land, suppressed the madmen, the Ebelites, and the Dantons, and destroyed the alliance with the people. During its administration, the faction implemented a policy of terror, guillotine suspected counter-revolutionaries and strictly restricted prices. Thousands of people were brutally killed during this period. However, the Jacobins 'rule also made some contributions to French history, such as promoting education, advocating religious freedom, and abolishing slavery in French colonies. In 1794, the Thermidor coup broke out, Robespierre was beheaded, and the Jacobin dictatorship ended. On July 27, 1794, Robespierre was arrested in the Thermidor coup, and on the evening of the 28th, he was guillotined. He is a patriot and is still very influential in France.
