Thirty-two years ago today, on May 29, 1993 (April 9, 1993), the Fourth Asia-Pacific Red Cross Conference concluded. On May 29, 1993, the Fourth Asia-Pacific Regional International Committee of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Conference concluded in Beijing. Representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross from 31 Asia-Pacific countries attending the conference signed the Beijing Declaration. The Beijing Declaration sets out the obligations of the International Committee of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and national and regional Red Cross Societies in the Asia-Pacific region after this conference, as well as the strategic plan of work, and specifies the central goal of "improving the situation of the most vulnerable" in all the work of the countries and regional Red Cross Societies in the region. The conference opened in Beijing on May 24. President Jiang Zemin sent a congratulatory letter to the conference.
