27 years ago today, on April 18, 1998 (March 22, 1998 lunar calendar), Qin Chaoren broke the Guinness World Record for high-altitude wire walking. On April 18, 1998, at the opening ceremony of the '98 Meiling Tourism and Cultural Festival held in Meiling, Nanchang Bay, Henan High-altitude Speed Art Troupe Qin Chaoren walked 98.1 meters above the ground in 15 minutes and 16 seconds, with a length of 769 meters. The Shanghai Great World Guinness headquarters announced on the spot that Qin Chaoren broke the Guinness World Record for high-altitude wire walking. Before that, in October 1995, Cochrane, an American-Canadian who is known as the "Prince of the World's High Altitude", set the Guinness World Record for high-altitude wire walking of 640.75 meters in the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River in China, which caused a sensation in the world, with a time of 58 minutes. In August 1996, at Hukou Waterfall on the Yellow River, Feng Jiushan broke Cochrane's Guinness World Record in just 35 minutes and 30 seconds on a steel wire 154 meters above the river and 730.22 meters in length.
