On May 4, 1919, the "May 4th" Movement broke out
106 years ago today, on May 4, 1919 (April 5, 1919), the May Fourth Movement broke out. The parade of Peking University marched towards Tiananmen Square. After the end of the First World War, the victorious imperialist countries held a "peace conference" in Paris to discuss how to punish the defeated Germany and sign a peace treaty with Germany. Under the manipulation of the imperialist powers, the "Peace Conference" unreasonably rejected the just request of the Chinese government as the victorious country, and even transferred the privileges formerly enjoyed by Germany in Shandong, our country, to Japan. This disregard for our country's national sovereignty aroused great indignation among the Chinese people. 106 years ago today, on May 4, 1919, students from Peking University and more than a dozen colleges and universities rallied in front of Tiananmen Square and held a demonstration, denouncing the government's crimes of treason and demanding that the pro-Japanese traitors Cao Rulin, Lu Zongyu, and Zhang Zongxiang be punished. The procession came to Cao Rulin's house, Zhaojialou, beat up Zhang Zongxiang, the minister who was in Cao's house in Japan, and set the house on fire. The reactionary warlord government dispatched a large number of military police to crack down and arrested more than 30 students. The next day, students from all over the city went on a general strike, established a student federation, and electrified the whole country. Li Dazhao also published an article severely condemning the reactionary government's suppression of students, opposed the unreasonable decision of the "Paris Peace Conference" on the Shandong issue, and actively rescued the arrested students. This anti-imperialist patriotic movement soon spread to the whole country, and students, workers, and businesspeople from all over the country all supported the patriotic actions of the students in Beijing. The reactionary warlord government was forced to release the arrested students, remove Cao Rulin and three other traitors from their posts, and inform the delegates to the Paris Peace Conference that they refused to sign the peace treaty. The victory of the "May 4th" movement was a completely uncompromising anti-imperialist and anti-feudal movement. It marked a new stage in the Chinese democratic revolution. It was the great beginning of China's new democratic revolution. In order to inherit and carry forward the patriotic spirit of the "May 4th" movement, in 1939, the Northwest Youth National Salvation Federation of the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Border Region designated May 4th as Chinese Youth Day. In December 1949, the Administration Council of the Central People's Government officially announced this holiday. In order to let future generations remember this historical event forever, the Monument to the People's Heroes in Tiananmen Square is also engraved with large reliefs reflecting the "May 4th" sports field. During the May 4th Movement, Peking University students took to the streets to make generous speeches. In 1919, Peking University students distributed leaflets during the May 4th Movement. On May 4th of that year, Beijing students gathered in front of Tiananmen Square. On May 9th, 1919, Tsinghua University students burned Japanese goods in the playground. The "May 4th" movement broke out. On May 4th, 1919, the Chinese people broke out in Beijing to completely oppose imperialism and feudalism. The May 4th Movement was the end of China's old democratic revolution (Bie River Crab~~~) and the beginning of the new democratic revolution (Bie River Crab~~~).
