On this day, 78 years ago, on September 8, 1947 (July 24, 1947 in the lunar calendar), India became a slaughterhouse. Bodies were littered on the newly formed border between India and Pakistan. On September 8, 1947, India and Pakistan had little time to celebrate independence, and large parts of the Dominion were paralyzed by terror. Muslims and Hindus fought to the death, blood flowed into the streets, and thugs and hooligans ran rampant everywhere.
