His father was a civil servant in the Ministry of Construction and Engineering. Conan Doyle studied in missionary school as a teenager, and later studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh, receiving a medical doctor in 1885. Later, he practiced medicine in Southsea. But he had a strong interest in literature, especially reading the works of Edgar Allan Poe, the originator of detective novels, and constantly contributed to Cornhill magazine. Conan Doyle's creative path is not smooth. In April 1886, he wrote Holmes's first detective story,"A Study in Blood", and sent it to the editor-in-chief of Cornhill magazine.
