July 28, 1937 Anti-Japanese patriotic general Zhao Dengyu sacrificed himself
On this day, 88 years ago, on July 28, 1937 (June 21, 1937, the anti-Japanese patriotic general Zhao Dengyu died. Zhao Dengyu, also known as Shuncheng, died heroically in the fight against the Japanese invaders in Nanyuan, Peiping on July 28, 1938. The National Government posthumously awarded him the rank of general of the army. Zhao Dengyu (1898 - 1937), also known as Shunchen, was born in Heze, Shandong. He joined Feng Yuxiang's army in 1914 and later served as Feng's personal bodyguard. He participated in the Northern Expedition in 1926. In 1933, he served as commander of the 109th Brigade of the 37th Division of the 29th Army, and later as commander of the 132nd Division. At the beginning of 1933, the Japanese invading army crossed Shanhaiguan and began to invade Reho Province (now incorporated into Hebei, Liaoning, Inner Mongolia and other places). After capturing Chengde on March 4, they began to launch large-scale attacks on the entrances of the Great Wall. On the 10th, the Japanese army approached Xifengkou. Zhao Dengyu led his troops to march 40 miles on a starry night run. They arrived at Haerling, Xifengkou before the Japanese army. They repelled the enemy's vanguard troops and stabilized the front line on Haerling and Koumen. In order to effectively eliminate the enemy forces in the offensive position, Zhao Dengyu asked the troops to wait for the enemy to reach within 100 meters before suddenly attacking, blasting them with grenades and cutting them with large knives. Due to the mixing of the two armies, enemy aircraft, artillery, and tanks were unable to play their role. At night, Zhao Dengyu took advantage of the enemy's negligence in vigilance and led his troops to detour from the enemy's flank to carry out a flanking attack, which caught the enemy unprepared and caused many casualties. During the battle, Zhao Dengyu was injured in the leg by a bomb, but he still attacked with the wound and led his troops to fight hand-to-hand with the enemy. After several days of fierce fighting, the enemy's repeated attacks failed and his spirit was exhausted. The China army won the Battle of Xifengkou. In the Battle of Xifengkou, a total of 5,000 to 6,000 Japanese troops were wiped out, severely attacking the arrogance of the enemy. After the full-scale War of Resistance broke out, in late July, the Japanese invaders mobilized tens of thousands of Japanese troops under the cover of aircraft and tanks to launch large-scale attacks on Peiping, Tianjin and neighboring strategic locations. Zhao Dengyu, the commander of the 132nd Division, led his troops to fight against the Japanese invasion and guard Nanyuan outside Beijing. The Japanese army dispatched more than 40 aircraft to bomb the position in turn, and a mechanized force of 3000 people launched fierce attacks from the ground. Under the leadership of Zhao Dengyu, the soldiers of the 132nd Division were not afraid of strong enemies and bravely resisted. The Japanese army cut the China army into sections and surrounded it. The troops fought alone and suffered heavy losses under enemy artillery fire and indiscriminate bombardment by aircraft. Zhao Dengyu led his troops to hold their positions to the death and fight to the death. On July 28, while being ordered to retreat to Peiping, he was ambushed by the Japanese army and died heroically at the age of 39. Comrade Mao Zedong once spoke highly of Zhao Dengyu and other Kuomintang anti-Japanese generals, praising them for their "glorious and heroic sacrifices in carrying out the sacred task of resisting the Japanese invaders." They "gave the entire China people a lofty and great model." On July 31, 1937, the Nanjing National Government issued an order posthumously awarded Zhao Dengyu the rank of general of the army. After 1945, the Beiping Municipal Government renamed Beigou Yan to Zhao Dengyu Road in commemoration. After the founding of New China, the Beijing City People's Government carried out many repairs to the tomb of martyr Zhao Dengyu at the West Avenue Entrance of Lugou Bridge. Comment: Anti-Japanese general Zhao Deng Yuguo is a general praised by both the Communist Party and the Communist Party. July 28 is the day when anti-Japanese heroes Zhao Dengyu and Tong Linge died for the country. Salute to the heroes of the Chinese nation!
