On October 25, 1948, Mao Zedong's three telegrams retreated from the enemy
On this day 77 years ago, on October 25, 1948 (September 23, 1948 lunar calendar), Mao Zedong's three telegraphs retreated from the enemy. At about 10 o'clock on October 25, 1948, the seat of the Party Central Committee in Xibaipo. The Beiping Underground Party sent an urgent telegram: Chiang Kai-shek and Fu Zuoyi tried to sneak attack Shijiazhuang. It is only more than 600 miles from Beiping to Shijiazhuang. If the attacking enemy uses mechanized transportation and air superiority to rush in at all costs, it will take at least 2 days, and at most 3 days to reach Shijiazhuang. The main force of our field army is still on the Pingsui Line hundreds of miles away. Even if it travels day and night, it will take four or five days to get back. Xibaipo is close to Shijiazhuang, and the seat of the Party Central Committee is in danger, and the situation is very serious. Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, Zhu De, and other leaders of the Military Commission, who were in charge of the Liaoshen Campaign, held urgent consultations, made strict military arrangements, and implemented an extraordinary measure to break the enemy: Mao Zedong personally wrote three telegrams for Xinhua News Agency. On the same day, Xinhua News Agency broadcast the first telegram written by Mao Zedong: "Jiang Fu Bandit Army Attempts to Assault Shijiazhuang". The telegram was only one or two hundred words long, exposing the enemy's sneak attack plot and calling on the Liberated Area militia to mobilize to annihilate the bandit army that dared to take risks. The enemy thought that his extremely secret operation was exposed, and the troops did not move, and they were already frightened. In order to further shake the morale of the army and disintegrate its fighting spirit, on October 27, Xinhua News Agency broadcast the second telegram written by Mao Zedong: "The chiefs of North China called on the people along Baoshi to prepare for the invasion of the bandits." The enemy never expected that as soon as their vanguard troops went south to Baoding, they were forcefully blocked by our local troops, which made them feel overwhelmed and puzzled. They had only walked dozens of miles in two days, and they could no longer move forward when they reached the north bank of the Tang River. Chiang Kai-shek and Fu Zuoyi did not see the coffin and did not shed tears. They were still dreaming of Shijiazhuang and continued to mobilize troops and move forward. In view of this situation, Mao Zedong wrote a third telegram for the Xinhua News Agency: "Comment on the Dream of Chiang Fu Bandit Army to Attack Shijiazhuang". The commentary said: "Here is a problem, do they want Peiping? Now Peiping is so empty, only one Youth Army 208th Division is there. Tongzhou is also empty, and the eastern section of Pingsui is only a few soldiers. In short, the entire northern front of Chiang Kai-shek, the entire Fu Zuoyi system, is about to be destroyed in a few months, but they are still there dreaming of Shijiazhuang!" Mao Zedong pointed to the fatal injury of the Kuomintang army. As a result, the sneak attack on Shijiazhuang became a dream of a yellow leaf.
